Walk around the centre and without even trying you’ll come across masterpieces by the giants of the artistic pantheon – sculptures by Michelangelo, Raphael frescoes and fountains by Bernini. As every tourist, I have visited ancient icons such as the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon and other Rome highlights – Vittoriano National Museum, Fontana di Trevi, Sant’ Angelo Castle, Piazza Navona and Spanish Steps – I still remember each and every detail of it!
Once you arrive in St Peter’s Square, things start to click. This is the square you've seen on the news, and there is the balcony the Pope is seen at.St Peter's Basilica is the greatest of the city's monumental basilicas, a towering masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. No trip to Rome is complete without a visit to the Vatican Museums and Gardens, being one of the most beautiful art collections in the world. I have also to mention the Sistine Chapel ceiling painted by Michelangelo, which is breathtaking indeed.
